The prophet Elijah is one of my top favorite Old Testament characters. He jumps onto the pages of scripture from nowhere in order to confront wicked king Ahab with a stunning prediction—“As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word” (1 Kings 17:1). And just like that, he turned and walked away.

Immediately, a critical drought began to fall upon Israel. Just as the prophet predicted, “no dew, no rain” could be found. Soon the ground began to crack, parched under the blistering sun. Cattle died. All greenery disappeared. What Ahab surely had at first thought were the ramblings of a madman quickly morphed into a national nightmare. God’s judgment was falling.

Meanwhile, God’s faithful servant experienced an amazing manifestation of supernatural provision and care. The Lord had sent him to a gurgling brook called Cherith. And there, twice daily, Elijah experienced divine room service in the form of a raven that brought him bread and meat. For an entire year this miraculous provision continued! While the nation languished, God cared for His own.

I write this in the middle of our current crisis to bring an encouraging truth: God knows those that are His, and FAITHFULLY PROVIDES for them in tough times.

God sees you, knows what you need, hears your cry for help, and will send it, even if He has to use an unorthodox method—like a raven!

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow…for your Heavenly Father knows what you need”—Jesus
