Jesus is Lord of the storm…
One day Jesus told His disciples to get into a boat and cross the sea to the land of the Gadarenes. Little did they know that they were about to experience “Faith School 101.” As they reached around the halfway point, a sudden storm came from nowhere. The wind howled, lightning flashed, thunder rolled, and the waves reached terrifying heights. They were afraid for their very lives.
Meanwhile, Jesus was asleep in the helm of the boat. Have you ever felt like Jesus was asleep in your storm? The disciples panicked and cried out, “Master, we are perishing!” Jesus stood up and literally spoke to the storm. “Peace, be still!” Instantly the storm subsided, leaving the saucer-eyed disciples shaken and amazed.
The Lord had one question for them: “Where is your faith?” Of course, His question was not really a question but an observation. Their faith was flawed. They were fine when all was well, when Jesus was multiplying bread, gathering great crowds, opening blind eyes and deaf ears. But in a violent, scary storm THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE HE WAS IN CHARGE.
We’re in a storm right now of a viral kind. The thunder of frightening headlines is deafening. The high waves of fear threaten your peace. The howling winds of uncertainty blow. Is Jesus in charge of this storm? Yes! He is Lord of the storm!
Let’s keep our eyes on Him, our faith in His promises, our hearts in His Presence, knowing that THIS TOO SHALL PASS!
