Good news: Jesus is not practicing social distancing!

During this very strange time in our national history, we have been advised (in some places ordered) to stay 6 feet away from each other to avoid spreading COVID-19. This has given way to “virtual” everything—the COVID non-handshake, COVID non-hug, COVID conversation, and COVID seclusion.

But thank God, Jesus doesn’t have to keep His distance! As His child, I can draw near to Him and He to me! I love the verses that promise His nearness:

“Draw NEAR to God, and he will draw NEAR to you” (James 4:8).
“Let us draw NEAR with a true heart in full assurance of faith” (Heb. 10:22).
“The LORD is NEAR to those who have a broken heart” (Ps. 34:18).

And here’s one of my favorites: “Can anything separate us from Christ’s love (Including COVID-19 or social isolation)?” The answer, NO!

Paul goes on to cover all possible bases: “I am sure that NOTHING can separate us from God’s love—not death, life, angels, or ruling spirits. I am sure that nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us or nothing below us—nothing in the whole created world—will ever be able to separate us from the love God has shown us in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Ro. 8:35; 38-39).

So until this strange chapter is over let’s make the most of it by drawing near to Jesus. You won’t have to wear latex gloves, or a face mask, or wash your hands with sanitizer afterward. His love will sustain us until we can safely meet again!
