In tough times like these, the FLEECERS are hard at it…

I just viewed a certain preacher on TV who read the words of Isaiah 54:17 to his in-house and viewing audience: “No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn.”

He proceeded to describe the “weapon” Isaiah mentions as financial lack, a bad doctor’s report, loss of a job, the abandonment of a spouse, and even worse, a prodigal child. He rattled off statistics on how among the 3 top causes of death in teens, the 3rd is suicide. This preacher’s target audience were people who are suffering, down, defeated, broke, and heartbroken. His voice rang with emotion and convincing empathy while he continuously led the TV audience to shout the words, “No weapon will prosper!”

And then it came. The answer to all their problems. The key to their breakthrough. Was it praying to God for help? No. Did he mention the Cross of Christ and the blood He shed for their sins? Nope. Did he offer to pray for them? No again. The answer, he said, was simple: “Sow a seed of $54.17 to this ministry.” You get it. $54.17 to line up with the Isaiah 54:17 verse. Ugh. God, he claimed, had told him to tell the viewers that their breakthrough would come as soon as they “stand up in faith” and send in the magic number.

So the suffering and hurting people listening to him were told they could buy a blessing. In fact, they MUST buy it by sending money to him. Not Samaritan’s Purse or some other charity organization that would help the poor. Oh no. HIM. Send it and your child won’t commit suicide. Send your last dime following the loss of your job and presto! God’s help is on the way. The implication? Blessings are not given BY God, they’re purchased FROM God.

How tragic that in a time of national crisis and pain, this kind of brazen fleecing is going down. How embarrassing for the lost to watch such a thing. No wonder they think the church is all about money. I close with this:

God’s blessings flow from His love and mercy, not our money. Christ’s blood is the true currency that released God’s blessings. And if you never had another dime to give He’d STILL BLESS YOU!
