Jesus’s disciples one day asked Him what would be the signs that precede His return. He answered: “And when you hear of wars and tumults, do not be terrified…there will be great earthquakes, and famines in many lands, and EPIDEMICS…” (Luke 21:9,11)

The Greek word we translate here into epidemic is the word for “pestilence.” We see the word “PEST” in it because that’s how it behaves—like a pest that you have trouble getting rid of. The history of mankind is peppered with the appearance of pestilences that have wrought havoc all the way back to the fall of Adam in the garden.

But notice what Jesus says next: “The end won’t follow immediately.” (Vs.9). Matthew adds: “These things are only the beginning of troubles, like the first pains of a woman giving birth.” (24:8)

This is not the end, it’s the beginning OF the end. Our troubled world is in labor pains. The earth is filled with violence, perversion, godlessness, and despair. But the Bible says these are labor pains that precede the birth of a brand new day—the day of Christ’s return and the establishment of His glorious kingdom. As the labor pains grow CLOSER together, His return draws NEARER.

In the meantime, Jesus assures His own children, “But none of these things can really harm you. You will save yourselves by continuing strong in your faith through all these things.” (Lk. 21:18-19)

Dear friend, if you know Jesus, not one thing will touch you outside His permission. The same Christ that predicted what we see happening all around us today has His hand on the DIAL of all your TRIALS. Steven Covey put best what we should all be doing: “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” The MAIN THING is our walk with Jesus. Use this time to draw closer than ever. He is at the door!

And remember, GOD HAS EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL!
