I was recently asked what my take is on the overall Covid-19 crisis…
I responded with some unfiltered honesty that I will share here. First, because I believe in God, I believe He is sovereign, meaning He is ultimately in charge of all things. Nothing enters His universe without His permission as revealed in the Book of Job and other places in Scripture. The psalmist wrote: “The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over ALL” (Ps. 103:9).
For reasons known only to Him, He has allowed spiritual warfare between light and dark, good and evil, Christ and Satan to continue until Christ’s return.
Since spiritual warfare is alive and well, I don’t believe Covid has been JUST a medical/viral issue. As Pastor Jim Cymbala of Brooklyn Tabernacle recently said, “There has been a spiritual darkness surrounding this whole thing.” You will recall that when God was sending the ten plagues on Egypt under Moses, the 9th plague was described as “darkness which may even be felt” (Exodus 10:21). That well describes my own take on the Covid crisis—it’s like a darkness, which can be felt.
In Ephesians 6, Paul the Apostle makes mention of a DAY OF EVIL. “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the EVIL DAY” (vs.13). Evil is always present on earth. But there is an “evil day,” which insinuates a particularly toxic spiritual attack. This has been one of those. Confusion, perplexity, hatred, and division have dominated America throughout the entire ordeal, none of which are of God.
With all the talk of a vaccine, social-distancing, and other various and sundry ways to beat Covid, I’ve heard only the sound of crickets regarding NATIONAL REPENTANCE as laid out in 2 Chronicles 7:14. Only then will true healing come.
SOME GOOD NEWS: When the death angel moved over Egypt in the final plague, there was light in the houses of God’s people. Thank God we have LIGHT as Christians! Even in a “day of evil,” the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, shines in our hearts and gives us peace.
Thank God for the indescribable gift of Jesus Christ!
